Who can participate?

Any writer who wants to join can participate! You can be an established author or newbie author who has never published. All are welcome!

 

Contest Period:

The submission period is Monday, March 7 through *Sunday, April 10, 2022, 11:59 PM EST.

The judging period is until April 30, 2022, 11:59 PM EST.

 

Winners will be announced on May 1, 2022.

 

The top three winners will automatically be published in our first ever digital and print anthology! Ten other stories will be chosen by Fictionate.Me critics to be included as well. More details on the anthology coming soon, so be sure to check our social media outlets as well as our website for more information.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. On the opening day of promotion, February 26, 2022, a prompt will be announced on Fictionate.Me’s website and social media pages. Submissions must relate to the theme of the prompt, or they will not be considered.
  2. Write a short fiction piece between 1000-5000 words on the prompt given for that month. You can also submit book chapters if they fit the prompt.
  3. All work must be previously unpublished (no reprints).
  4. Please keep content PG-13 to be inclusive of our teen audience (no triggering content, excessive violence, or explicit sexual content, etc.).
  5. To submit your fiction, upload your story or chapter to Fictionate.Me’s website. Be sure to add a book cover image with your name and title on the front. Need to make a free book cover? Check out Canva’s free Book Cover Maker!
  6. To officially submit your work, use the tag #2022-april-contest when uploading your work. You must use this tag when you upload, or your work will not be submitted to the contest. For writers new to Fictionate.Me, create a writer's account here.
  7. Post the link to your story on your website and social media pages to spread the word.
  8. Tell your friends, family, and fans to vote for your story by liking it on your Fictionate.Me story page!
  9. Follow any of our official Fictionate.Me social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) to stay updated about the competition.

Prompt: Craft a fairy tale retelling in a speculative fiction genre: sci-fi, fantasy, horror, paranormal, alternate history, etc. You can choose any fairy tale you like! Just give it a unique and unexpected twist. Wow us with your imagination! Please only rewrite fairy tales—do not submit fan fiction. Minimum 1000 words; maximum word count is 5000.
